Unfilled jobs in the U.S. exceeded the number of unemployed Americans by more than one million as the summer came to a close, a sign it is increasingly difficult for employers to find workers. Service-sector activity across the U.S. slowed in October, but remained at a level indicative of steady economic growth. Puerto Rico’s construction industry is booming despite reckoning with rising costs of labor and materials, which some contractors worry could slow the island’s recovery efforts.
