Macro Economic News 15 Mar 2019
Economists sharply lowered their forecasts for employment and economic
growth in the first quarter in a new Wall Street Journal survey, after recent
government data suggested the U.S. economy is cooling. China made last-minute
changes to a proposed foreign-investment law, trying to address U.S. complaints
about forced technology transfer and bolster a compromise seen as crucial to
striking a trade deal. Economists are pushing farther out into the future their
forecasts for when the Federal Reserve will next raise interest rates, and a
growing number say the central bank’s next move will be a rate cut. Sales of
new homes in the U.S. fell in January, signalling a weak start to 2019 for the
troubled U.S. housing industry.
